Sokol (592 m a.s.l.) is a phonolite peak in the Lusatian Mountains, quietly hiding the ruins of a medieval castle among its trees. It is a charming destination that combines easy forest hiking with a genuine sense of history and discovery.

The summit itself is wrapped in tall trees that block the panoramic view from the very top, giving the place an intimate, sheltered atmosphere. The real reward for your eyes comes just below the summit, on a traverse where you get a lovely open view across to the neighbouring hill of Hvozd. On the slopes you can spot curious depressions in the ground — the lasting traces of medieval iron ore mining. The northern side of the hill is home to 'Kočičí studánka' ('Cat's Spring'), a charming little spring with a nearby bench area, perfect for a rest.

• A Forestry Educational Trail 'Sokol' was established on the slopes in 2008 by the Czech state forest enterprise
• 'Cat's Spring' and a rest area with seating are located at the trail junction on the northern side of the hill
• Note: there is a second hill called Sokol (668 m) near Kytlice, about 15 km away — make sure you navigate to the right one

The ruins at the summit are what remains of Falkenberk Castle, built around the year 1400 — a small but atmospheric reminder that this quiet hill once had a much more prominent role in the landscape.
