The Östliche Seespitze rises to 3,416 metres in the Stubai Alps, the second-highest peak in the Alpeiner Berge group after the Ruderhofspitze. It marks the highest point of the ridge running northeast from the Westliche Seespitze, dividing the Falbesontal valley from the Alpeiner Tal.

Seen from the south, the mountain looks fairly approachable, but its north face tells a different story — the Alpeiner Kräulferner glacier flows down from this side, giving the peak a far wilder and more dramatic appearance. This contrast between the gentle southern slopes and the rugged northern flank makes it a rewarding destination for mountaineers seeking a classic glaciated summit in the Stubai Alps.

How to reach the summit

• Neue Regensburger Hütte — standard route, around 4 hours, demanding (crosses the Hochmoosferner glacier, finishing with easy scrambling on rock, UIAA grade I, through the southwest flank)
• Franz-Senn-Hütte — via the Alpeiner Kräulferner glacier, a harder and roughly one hour longer approach

Good to know

• Both routes cross glaciers, so proper glacier travel equipment and experience are essential
• The traverse to the Westliche Seespitze is difficult, with one section requiring grade III climbing

The dramatic difference between the calm southern side and the glacier-carved northern face is what gives this summit its distinctive character among the peaks of the Stubai Alps.
