Hrádek, also known as Oltářík, is a small but striking hill in the České středohoří range crowned by the picturesque ruins of a medieval castle. The short climb rewards you with a sweeping panorama over volcanic hills and the lowlands of the lower Ohře river.

The hill formed from sodalite tephrite within volcanic breccia, and its summit and slopes are scattered with frost-shattered rock outcrops, boulder fields and other traces of freeze-thaw weathering - a real treat for anyone interested in geology. The scenery shifts with the seasons: in spring and summer the green slopes contrast with the pale castle stones, in autumn mist often rolls in from the lowlands, and in winter the views stretch even further under crisp, clear skies. The atmosphere is quiet and unhurried, away from the crowds, perfect for a relaxed walk with a view.

How to reach the summit

• From the Děkovka crossroads (red trail between Vlastislav and Lhota) - follow the blue trail to the castle, a short route, easy to moderate difficulty
• The path winds clockwise around the hill all the way to the top
