Hohe Salve is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Kitzbühel Alps, often nicknamed the 'Rigi of Tyrol' thanks to its striking, almost perfectly conical shape. It's a mountain you can reach comfortably by cable car, yet it still delivers a genuine alpine summit experience.

From the 1828 m summit, clear weather rewards visitors with sweeping views over the Hohe Tauern and the Zillertal Alps, while the Wilder Kaiser massif rises dramatically just to the north. On especially clear days, you can even spot the Großglockner and Großvenediger in the distance. In summer the summit buzzes with hikers and paragliders, while in winter it becomes a lively hub of one of the region's largest ski areas.

How to reach the summit

• Söll — Hochsöll gondola or Hohe Salve gondola, a short ride, easy
• Hopfgarten — Salvenbahn I and II gondolas, alternative approach from the south

Practical information

• The summit holds an old pilgrimage chapel called Salvenkirchl
• A summit restaurant is available for food and drinks
• A transmission tower for the Hohe Salve transmitter, operated by ORS, stands at the top
• In winter, the peak is part of the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser/Brixental ski area, with several summit runs down to Söll, Itter, Hopfgarten and Brixen im Thale
• Its shape and exposed position make it a popular launch site for paragliders

The name is believed to have Rhaeto-Romanic roots, and the mountain's unmistakable cone shape has long made it a defining landmark of the Kitzbühel region.
