The Kitzbüheler Horn is one of the standout peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol, missing the two-thousand-metre mark by just a few metres. Its distinctive silhouette, topped by a television tower, dominates the skyline above the town of Kitzbühel.

In summer the mountain is a playground for hikers and mountain bikers, with well-maintained trails winding through alpine meadows and panoramic terrain. At 1800 m there's an alpine flower garden showcasing mountain plants from around the world. In winter, two separate ski areas operate on the mountain - one served by the St. Johann lifts on the northwest slopes, the other by the Kitzbühel lifts near the summit and southeast side - though the two are not connected. Views from the top stretch across the surrounding valleys and neighbouring peaks.

How to reach the summit

• Kitzbühel — toll panoramic road or cable car, moderate difficulty
• St. Johann — approach from the northwest side, used by the local ski lift infrastructure

Practical information

• A 102 m TV tower (Sendeturm Kitzbüheler Horn), operated by ORS, stands at the summit
• A secondary, lower summit called Harschbichl (1604 m) is accessible from the north
• Every August the mountain hosts a well-known cycling race up the 7.4 km toll road to the Alpenhaus (1670 m), with gradients reaching 22.4%
• A mountain running race also takes place, covering 12.9 km from Kitzbühel with 1234 m of elevation gain

In spring 1893, Franz Reisch made the first ski descent of the Kitzbüheler Horn, an event now regarded as a milestone in the history of alpine skiing.
