The Furtschaglspitze is a striking rock pyramid rising above the Furtschaglhaus in the Zillertal Alps, standing between the Schönbichler Horn and the mighty Großer Möseler. It's the kind of peak that rewards hikers ready for a bit of scrambling with a summit view they won't forget.

The surrounding landscape is classic high-alpine terrain - jagged ridgelines, glaciers, and deep valleys stretching toward the horizon. The rock is solid but the terrain demands sure footing and a head for exposure. Views from the top take in the Großer Möseler and a sweep of Zillertal three-thousanders. In summer the route is generally snow-free, while in spring and autumn icy patches on the rock can appear, so timing your trip matters.

How to reach the summit

• Furtschaglhaus (2295 m) towards Schönbichler Scharte (Berliner Höhenweg), then just below the col traverse south to the next notch and continue on the north side of the ridge to the summit - easy scrambling UIAA II, demanding route
• Classic alternative: the west ridge (UIAA III+), harder and suited to experienced climbers

• The normal route involves easy climbing (UIAA II) - previous scrambling experience recommended
• The original west ridge route is considerably harder, rated UIAA III+

The first ascent was made on 8 July 1887 by Carl Benzien and Hermann Meynow of the Berlin Section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club, guided by local mountain guide Hans Hörhager from Dornauberg.
