The Durreck (3,135 m) is the highest peak in the Durreck Group, a striking South Tyrolean range that separates the Ahrntal valley to the north from the Reintal valley to the south. It's a rewarding summit for hikers seeking sweeping views over one of the lesser-crowded corners of the Alps.

Sitting on the main ridge that runs northeast to southwest, the Durreck offers a rugged high-alpine landscape of rocky crests and scree slopes. To the northwest lie the last remnants of glaciation in the group, the Klausenkees glacier, which once descended much lower in the early 20th century. The whole area falls within the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, making for quiet trails and unspoiled alpine scenery, especially rewarding in summer when the routes are largely snow-free.
