Dreisesselberg is a scenic peak in the Lattengebirge range in Bavaria's Berchtesgadener Land district, right next to the Austrian border. It's a popular hiking destination combining fine mountain views with an intriguing history as a former tripoint of historical borders.

The surrounding landscape is classic Northern Limestone Alps terrain - rocky ridges, forests and alpine meadows create a peaceful yet atmospheric setting. In summer the trails wind through green pastures and lookout points, while in winter a short toboggan run operates near Bayerisch Gmain, making the area worth visiting year-round. Near the summit, at around 1300 m, hikers can admire the distinctive rock formation known as Steinerne Agnes.

• Bayerisch Gmain (Wanderzentrum, approx. 600 m) - Route 9, about 4 hours, moderate difficulty
• Winkl near Bischofswiesen - alternative approach trail

Practical information

• The Bayerisch Gmain starting point has a car park and a stop on the Bad Reichenhall–Berchtesgaden railway line
• An information board on site displays marked trails, including the Alpgarten circular route
• Information panels explain the flora and fauna of the Northern Limestone Alps
• A side path also leads to the nearby Karkopf peak

The mountain's name recalls an old border point where three historical territories met - the County of Plain, the Reichenhall court district and the Provostship of Berchtesgaden - making it as much a walk through history as a hike.
