Červený vrch is a quiet, lesser-known peak in the eastern part of the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains), tucked away on a side ridge branching from the mighty Sněžka. It's a spot for those who appreciate the wild character of the mountains rather than crowded viewpoints.

The summit and slopes are covered in dense, mostly spruce forest, giving the area a rugged, untouched feel. The ridge, known as Růžohorská hornatina, separates the river basins of the Úpa and Malá Úpa - waters flow west and southwest into the Úpa, and south and east into its left tributary, the Malá Úpa. In winter the forest lies deep under snow, in summer it's alive with birdsong, and in autumn the dark green spruce slopes create a striking contrast with the mist rising from the valleys below.

How to reach the summit

• The summit itself is inaccessible to hikers - no marked trail leads to the top
• A yellow-marked trail runs to the west of Červený vrch, connecting the crossroads toward Pec pod Sněžkou and Malá Úpa with the route up to Sněžka - this is the closest way to experience the area

Practical information

• The entire massif lies within the Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP), so national park conservation rules apply
• There is no tourist infrastructure or viewpoint directly on the summit

It's one of those Krkonoše peaks that stays in the shadow of famous Sněžka, yet still plays an important role in shaping the landscape and water systems of the whole region.
