Týnec Castle is one of the very first examples of high-Baroque residential architecture in Bohemia, tucked right in the heart of a small village southwest of Klatovy, on the way to Železná Ruda. It's the kind of place that surprises you with its elegance in the middle of quiet countryside.

The castle is surrounded by a park that was originally laid out in the French style and later transformed into a more relaxed English park in the 19th century. Walking among the old trees with the Baroque façade in view feels completely different depending on the season — fresh and green in spring, golden and atmospheric in autumn. It's a place for a peaceful outing, away from the crowds, where history and nature quietly coexist.

How to get there

• From Klatovy heading towards Železná Ruda — via local road, easy access, approx. 15-20 minutes by car
• The castle sits directly in the village of Týnec, reachable on foot from the village centre

Practical information

• Built in the early 18th century according to plans by architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi
• Protected as a cultural monument since 1964, and added to the list of national cultural monuments in May 2014
• Now owned by a private art collector who has been gradually restoring it since 2000

It's worth knowing that the castle has had quite a colourful past — it served as a luxury hotel, an orphanage, a home for disabled children, and even a military facility before finally landing in the hands of a collector who is bringing back its former glory.
