Javorná (1090 m a.s.l.) is a peaceful, forested summit in the heart of the Šumava mountains — the highest point of the Kochánovská pláň plateau. There are no crowds and no cable cars here, just quiet old-growth forest, the scent of spruce trees, and a summit register box waiting for your signature.

The peak is wrapped in dense woodland, giving it a calm and slightly mysterious feel throughout the year. In spring, the bogs and wetlands on its slopes come alive with rare plants and birds; in summer shaded forest tracks offer cool walking; and in winter a blanket of snow turns the area into something truly magical. A clearing at the top opens up views across the surrounding Šumava hills. This is a place for those who want to escape the well-trodden tourist paths.

• Starting point at the former village of Starý Brunst, at the bend on road No. 27 coming from Železná Ruda (rescue point A 7) — unmarked route, approx. 2.5 km, 150 m elevation gain, easy

• There are no marked hiking trails leading to Javorná. The route follows road No. 27 briefly, then a narrow paved lane (1.3 km), and finally an unpaved forest track up to the summit clearing.
• At the summit you will find a red-and-white triangulation post with a box containing a summit register, and a small bench beside it.
• The entire area lies within the Šumava Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Šumava) — please stick to roads and respect the nature reserves on the slopes.

At the southern foot of Javorná, along the Křemelná river, once stood the village of Zhůří (Haidl am Ahornberg) — now lost to history, its story woven into the broader fate of the Šumava borderlands after World War II. Four nature reserves protect the mountain's slopes, covering peatbogs, wetland springs, and bird nesting grounds, making Javorná a rewarding destination for nature lovers as much as hikers.
