Perched on Zamczysko hill (463 m) above the Poprad river valley, the ruins of Rytro Castle are one of Małopolska's most atmospheric hidden gems. A medieval sandstone tower rising some 10 metres above the hillside, surrounded by forest and silence — this is the kind of place you stumble upon and remember forever.

The hill rises steeply above the right bank of the Poprad river, and the woodland around the ruins shifts beautifully through the seasons — fresh green in spring, cool shade in summer, blazing colours in autumn, and a fairy-tale snowy backdrop in winter. From the ruins you get lovely views across the valley and the surrounding ridges of the Beskid Sądecki mountains. The real magic here is the solitude: no crowds, just birdsong and the distant murmur of the river below.

• From the village of Rytro — walk uphill to Zamczysko hill, a short steep climb taking roughly 15–20 minutes, difficulty: moderate.

• The hill stands on the right bank of the Poprad, north of the Sucha Struga hamlet within the administrative area of Rytro.
• The sandstone tower survives to a height of approximately 10 m.
• Renovation works were carried out in 2025.
• Free entry, no tourist facilities on site.

The earliest written record of Rytro Castle dates to 1312, when King Władysław Łokietek granted the Poor Clares of Stary Sącz the right to collect tolls 'below the castle Ritter' — making this quiet hilltop a surprisingly important piece of medieval Polish history.
