The City Tower in Trnava is one of Slovakia's finest Renaissance landmarks — a massive 57-metre stone tower that has kept watch over the city's rooftops for over four centuries. Whether you are a history enthusiast or simply looking for a great vantage point, this tower promises an experience that is hard to forget.

The tower's eight above-ground floors are crowned by a viewing gallery at around 29 metres, offering lovely views across the old town. Look closely at the façade and you will spot beautiful diamond sgraffito decorating the corners and the top floor, plus a sundial on the south-eastern side. The highlight at the very top is a gilded copper statue of the Immaculate Virgin, life-size and quite unusual — she has a face on both the front and the back. Local legend says the townspeople requested this so that Mary would watch over every part of the city and never turn her back on anyone. Inside the tower, a permanent exhibition tells the story of Trnava through the centuries, and a tourist information centre is also based here.
