The Messner Mountain Museum Ripa is one of six mountain museums created by climber Reinhold Messner, housed within the castle of Brunico (Bruneck) in the Val Pusteria valley. Its name comes from Tibetan - 'ri' meaning mountain and 'pa' meaning man - reflecting the museum's focus on the peoples who live in mountainous regions worldwide.

The castle sits above the town of Brunico, offering visitors sweeping views over the surrounding Val Pusteria peaks alongside its exhibits. Inside, medieval stonework blends with contemporary architectural touches, creating a thoughtful space dedicated to the relationship between alpine and urban culture, mountain farming and tourism. The setting feels especially atmospheric in autumn and winter, when the valley town below is often wrapped in mist and the castle's solid walls offer a sense of shelter and history.
