Kolowrat Castle in Rychnov nad Kněžnou is one of the largest baroque architectural complexes in Bohemia — locals proudly call it the 'Hradčany of Rychnov'. Perched on a gently sloping plateau above the Kněžna stream, its twin clock towers and sweeping facades make it an unforgettable sight and a true highlight of the Orlické Mountains foothills.

The castle ensemble creates a remarkable skyline, best appreciated from the town below or while strolling through the French gardens with their central fountain. A covered corridor connects the castle to the Church of the Holy Trinity, completing one of the finest baroque compositions in the country. Every season brings its own charm — the crisp winter light sharpens the silhouette of the towers, while summer fills the gardens with colour and life.

• Rychnov nad Kněžnou is approximately 32 km east of Hradec Králové and is easily reached by car or bus. The castle is located in the north-western part of town, close to the Church of the Holy Trinity.

The castle's current baroque form was shaped after a fire in 1704, with the redesign attributed to the celebrated architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. Among the gallery's treasures are paintings by Karel Škréta and Hans von Aachen — and a ceremonial sword from 1667, a personal gift from Emperor Leopold I to Count Kolowrat himself.
