Koberštejn is a atmospheric medieval castle ruin tucked into the forested hills of the Jeseníky region, near Zlaté Hory. Only a stone tower survives, but the wild setting, double moat and distant views make it well worth the visit.

Perched on a rocky ridge, the ruins are surrounded by dense woodland that feels genuinely remote. Behind the remaining tower, a stone viewpoint opens up towards Starý Rejvíz and the surrounding mountains — on a clear day you can even spot territory across the Polish border. The site has a quietly mysterious atmosphere year-round: misty and dramatic in autumn, cool and shaded in summer.

• Zlaté Hory or Horní Údolí — starting points for a short hike to the ruins; the terrain is not demanding and suits most visitors.

• The cliffs around the castle offer around 60 climbing routes on schist with quartz intrusions, up to 25 m high, mostly vertical walls with some overhangs.
• Some routes are bolted; others require your own removable protection.
• A summit book is placed on the tower known as 'Lesní muž' (Forest Man).

The castle was most likely built in the late 13th century to guard a merchant trail along the Černá Opava river — and according to local lore, it served as a hideout for bandits from the 16th century right up to the mid-1600s.
