Trosky is one of the most iconic ruins in the Czech Republic — two volcanic towers rising dramatically above the landscape of Bohemian Paradise, visible from miles around. Whether you spot them on the horizon or stand at their base, these twin peaks never fail to impress.

The two towers — Panna ('Virgin', 511 m) and Baba ('Old Woman', 502 m) — are the solidified vents of an ancient tertiary volcano, sculpted over millennia by frost and wind into their distinctive shapes. The castle built around them dates to the 14th century and carries centuries of drama within its crumbling walls. In summer the ruins glow against green forest backdrops; in autumn the surrounding hills burn with colour; and on crisp winter mornings the frost-covered towers look almost otherworldly. The views from both towers stretch across the entire Vyskeřská Highlands and on clear days reveal the full breadth of Bohemian Paradise.

Trosky withstood two Hussite sieges in 1424 and 1428 before finally falling to the army of King George of Poděbrady in 1469 — and it recently earned a new kind of fame as a location in the video game 'Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2', released in 2025.
