Tucked between the spa park and the Dorna River, the elegant Dornelor Palace — better known as the Vatra Dornei Casino — is one of Bukovina's most captivating historic buildings. Once a glittering hub of Habsburg-era social life, it has recently been fully restored and reopened to the public.

Built in an eclectic style with touches of German Renaissance architecture, the palace echoes the famous casino in Baden, Austria. Inside, under Murano crystal chandeliers, it once housed a theatre hall, library, restaurant and confectionery. Today it functions as a museum, letting visitors step back into the world of imperial balls and waltz evenings. The surrounding spa park is lovely year-round — lush and green in summer, golden in autumn, and quietly snow-covered in winter, giving the whole area a graceful, old-world resort atmosphere.

Over the decades, the casino welcomed Emperor Franz Joseph, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and Romanian personalities such as Lucian Blaga and Nicolae Iorga — a dramatic history now beautifully preserved for visitors to discover.
