Castrum Resculum, located near the village of Bologa in Cluj County, Romania, is one of the most evocative Roman military sites in Transylvania — an ancient fort dating back to around 106 AD that still leaves visible marks on the landscape today. The ruins sit in an area known as Grădiște, surrounded by gentle hills and agricultural fields typical of this part of Transylvania. The atmosphere is unhurried and pastoral — green meadows roll around the old stone remains, and the silence makes it easy to imagine the legionaries who once stood guard here. Spring and summer bring lush greenery that frames the ruins beautifully, while autumn gives the landscape a warm, golden tone. Nearby, you can also spot the remains of a Roman bathhouse, adding another layer to the story of this place.

The fort once garrisoned the Cohors I Aelia Gaestorum milliaria and Cohors II Hispanorum, and in the 2nd century colonists from Greece — believed to be from the Patras region — were brought here to settle the area. It is the oldest known settlement in the entire district.
