Standing at 2303 m, Pietrosul Rodnei is the highest peak in the entire Eastern Carpathians — a title that makes it one of Romania's most rewarding mountain objectives. If you want to stand on the roof of eastern Romania and take in a vast alpine panorama, this is the place to be.

The mountain sits on the border of Maramureș and Bistrița-Năsăud counties, and its character shifts beautifully with the seasons. Summer brings open alpine meadows and long clear days perfect for the climb, while autumn paints the beech forests in the valley in deep golds before winter locks the upper ridges in snow. The rocky upper section has a genuinely wild feel, and the weather station near the top is a welcome landmark on the final push to the summit.
