Pop Ivan Maramorosh (1938 m) is one of the most unspoilt peaks in the Ukrainian Carpathians — a sharp pyramid rising right on the border between Ukraine and Romania, surrounded by vast alpine meadows and near-total wilderness. If you are after raw mountain scenery without the crowds, this is your peak.

The summit belongs to the Maramorosh massif, also known as the Hutsul Alps, and its pyramidal form makes it instantly recognisable from the surrounding ridges. The northern and eastern slopes are steep and rugged, while broad highland meadows called polonyny stretch across the gentler terrain. Small seasonal lakes form around the mountain, and the area hosts rare species including crocuses, East Carpathian rhododendron, edelweiss and forest lily. In summer the polonyny are lush and green; in autumn they turn deep gold. The whole area falls within the Maramorosh Reserve of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, ensuring exceptional natural integrity.

Pop Ivan Maramorosh shares only its name with the better-known Pop Ivan Chornohirskyi further west — but those who make the journey here are rewarded with genuine solitude and one of the finest wildflower displays in the entire Carpathian range.
