The Osterva Saddle is one of those rewarding spots in the Slovak High Tatras that does not demand a full day's effort — yet delivers spectacular mountain scenery. Sitting at 1,966 m above sea level, just below the summit of Ostrva, this wide, grassy saddle is a wonderful viewpoint and a key crossroads between three stunning valleys.

What makes this place special is its open, welcoming character. Unlike a narrow rocky col, the Osterva Saddle is broad and grassy, giving you space to stop, breathe and take in the views across the Mengusovská Valley, the Velká Hučivá Valley and the Batizovská Valley. In summer the meadow grasses shimmer in the breeze; in autumn golden tones dominate the slopes; and in winter a blanket of snow transforms the saddle into a quiet, pristine alpine scene.

On Christmas Eve 1891, Theodor Wundt made the first ever winter ascent to this saddle — a festive adventure that became a small but memorable chapter in Tatra mountaineering history.
