Mirkovica is a 1286-metre peak sitting right at the heart of Gorski Kotar, at the point where three forest districts - Ravna Gora, Vrbovsko and Gomirje - meet. It's a place where the scenery impresses in every season, and on a clear day the view stretches almost as far as the Alps.
The peak is surrounded by dense coniferous and deciduous forest, home to foxes, roe deer, bears and wild boar, which has made the area popular for hunting tourism too. In summer it's a peaceful, green retreat perfect for hiking, while in winter the surrounding region turns into a real haven for skiers, largely thanks to the neighbouring Bjelolasica resort. On clear days, Mirkovica offers views of Velebit, Učka, Klek, and even glimpses of the Alps - making it one of the most rewarding viewpoints in the region.

Practical information
A television transmitter has operated on the summit since 1965, and it was struck by rockets four times during the Croatian War of Independence - today it's fully restored and broadcasts digital TV and FM radio.
