Vrbenský Lake is a peaceful example of nature reclaiming a former mining area, now offering a quiet retreat for anglers and walkers just outside the town of Most. Its calm waters and green surroundings make it an easy, rewarding escape from urban life.

The lake sits at 230 metres above sea level within the vast Kopisty spoil heap, its roughly triangular shape bordered on the east by open grassland and a narrow strip of forest along the shore. The western side is wooded, adding to the natural feel, while the southern edge meets an industrial zone, road and railway line separating it from the nearby Matylda reservoir. The atmosphere shifts with the seasons - lively with anglers in summer, calm and reflective in autumn and winter.

How to get there

• From Most (about 3 km) - easy walk or bike ride, flat terrain
• From the Souš district - short, accessible approach for most visitors

Practical information

• Official fishing site since 2003, stocked with carp, catfish, pike, zander and more
• Swimming and water sports are not allowed - the lake is reserved for fishing
• Marked fishing spots are set up along the shore

Interestingly, the lake formed naturally when the ground subsided after mining and three smaller pools merged - it has no natural inflow or outflow, relying entirely on rainfall.
