Jirkov Reservoir is a peaceful stretch of water tucked into the Telšské valley of the Bílina River, right in the heart of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory). It's a place where the region's industrial past meets surprisingly scenic nature - perfect for a quiet walk or bike ride away from the crowds.

The dam is framed by forested slopes, and above the water rise the ruins of Najštejn Castle, lending the spot a slightly mysterious atmosphere. In summer the water sparkles and draws walkers and cyclists, in autumn the surrounding forests turn golden, and in winter the frozen surface and snowy hillsides bring the deep silence typical of the Ore Mountains. This is less a classic hiking destination and more a place for contemplation - ideal for anyone seeking calm and views of water framed by mountains.

How to get there

• Jirkov (town) — path along the dam, approx. 30-40 minutes on foot, easy difficulty
• Blatno — alternative access from the village side, also suitable for cyclists

Practical information

• The dam and surrounding areas are closed to public access for most of the year
• From April to October, the dam and the path around the lake are open to walkers and cyclists
• The reservoir supplies drinking water, so a first-degree protection zone applies
