Hruboskalsko is one of the most impressive rock cities in the Czech Republic — a sprawling maze of sandstone towers, arches and tunnels tucked inside the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area, just 3 kilometres from the town of Turnov. Hundreds of rock formations rise up to 60 metres above the forest floor, carved over millions of years into honeycombs, windows and gates that feel almost architectural. Whether you come for hiking, rock climbing or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this place will leave a lasting impression.

The reserve covers 219 hectares of almost entirely forested terrain, threaded with marked trails that wind through deep gorges, past relict pine forests and up to stunning viewpoints. The Mariánská vyhlídka lookout offers one of the finest panoramas in the whole of Bohemian Paradise, sweeping across the Dragon Rocks towards the iconic Trosky castle ruin. In summer the sandstone walls stay cool in the shade; in autumn the forests glow with warm colours. A highlight not to miss is the 'Myší díra' — a natural rock passage 65 metres long running beneath Hrubá Skála castle.

• Turnov (3 km away) — multiple colour-marked trails lead into the reserve, approx. 30–45 min walk to the heart of the rock city, difficulty: easy to moderate
• Sedmihorky or Hrubá Skála village — closer alternative starting points, easy access to main viewpoints and trails

• The reserve lies within the Bohemian Paradise CHKO — stay on marked trails and do not climb outside designated climbing sectors.
• Rock climbing on sandstone is permitted under a specific agreement between the Czech Mountaineering Association and the CHKO administration — special sandstone climbing rules apply.
• The critically endangered lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros) lives here, with a local population of 150–300 individuals.

The area has a rich climbing history dating back to 1906, and the symbolic Climbers' Cemetery — opened in 1971 in memory of those who perished in WWII concentration camps — remains one of the most moving spots in the entire rock city.
