The Naděje Dam is a small, picturesque water reservoir tucked away in a deep, forested valley along the upper course of the Hamerský Stream in the Lusatian Mountains. It's the kind of place where the quiet of the forest blends with the sound of water spilling over the weir, and in summer the surface takes on a striking blue-green hue.

The reservoir lies beneath the northern slopes of Suchý vrch, surrounded by dense woodland that offers welcome shade in summer and vibrant colors in autumn. The water stays cold even on hot days, though that doesn't stop swimmers from taking a dip. This is not a crowded tourist hotspot but rather a peaceful corner for those seeking a genuine connection with nature.

How to get there

• From the town of Cvikov or from Luž (2.7 km to the south) via yellow trail 6953 — easy to moderate difficulty
• Along the international red trail E10, which runs along the southern side of the dam beneath Suchý vrch
• Via cycling route 3061, also suitable for bike touring

Practical information

• Swimming is possible, though the water can be quite cold even in summer
• Remnants of Czech border fortifications (so-called řopíky) from the 1930s can be found nearby

The dam was built between 1937 and 1938 to supply water for the nearby mill and a Francis turbine that once powered a sawmill in the settlement of Naděje — today, long after its industrial past faded, it still serves to hold back water and delights visitors with its calm and scenic setting.
