Na Pilavě is a small nature reserve tucked away in the back part of the Pilava Valley near Bílichov, sheltering one of the rarest and most endangered plant species in the Czech Republic - the black false hellebore. It's a spot for those who enjoy quiet forest walks with a touch of botanical discovery along the way.

The reserve stretches along the path running through the valley and climbs up its slope. The surrounding forest is mostly around 70-year-old spruce mixed with pine, larch, birch, occasional beech, and a few firs. Across the path stands a 130-year-old beech stand, beneath which young beech, spruce, and oak are naturally regenerating. In spring the forest floor bursts with anemones, buttercups, and Solomon's seal, summer brings cool shade, and autumn paints the woods in warm colors - the place has its own charm in every season.

How to get there

• Bílichov or Líský — blue trail crossing the whole valley, easy route
• The shortest way leads along the dam of the Great Bílichov Pond

Good to know

• Protected area due to the presence of the critically endangered black false hellebore (Veratrum nigrum)
• Other rare species growing here include common twayblade, mezereon, bastard balm, common columbine, lesser butterfly-orchid, and occasionally lady orchid
• Visitors are encouraged to stay on marked paths to avoid disturbing the protected plant habitats

The Pilava Valley is also known locally as Pilava, Pilavská stráň, or Kravský dolík - and among older locals and foresters simply as the Back Bílichov Valley.
