Montafon is a 39-kilometre-long valley in Vorarlberg, Austria, stretching from Bielerhöhe to Bludenz and carved by the River Ill. It is one of the region's most versatile alpine destinations - a hiker's and biker's paradise in summer, and one of Vorarlberg's major ski areas in winter.

The valley is flanked by the Verwall group to the north and the Rätikon and Silvretta ranges to the south, with the 3312-metre Piz Buin as the highest peak in the surrounding area. Numerous side valleys such as Silbertal, Gargellental and Gauertal give the landscape a richly varied character. In summer, green alpine pastures dotted with traditional Maisäß huts dominate the scenery, while in winter snow-covered slopes and high-altitude cross-country trails take over.

• Bludenz — the L/B 188 road (Silvrettastraße) leads into the valley; accessible by car or via the Montafonerbahn railway to Schruns
• Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße — a toll high alpine road connecting Montafon with the Paznaun valley in Tyrol, also popular among road cyclists

• The Montafonerbahn railway runs from Bludenz to Schruns, with an extension to Partenen currently planned
• The Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße is a toll road and only open seasonally
• The valley hosts 10 hydropower plants operated by illwerke vkw, some of which can be visited (e.g. Kopswerk I, Wasser-Erlebnisstollen Vermunt)

It was in Schruns that Ernest Hemingway spent two winters in the 1920s, later writing about the region in his books and helping bring international fame to Montafon.
