Lake Lepenica is the largest artificial lake in the Fužine region, built in 1988 and considerably bigger than the nearby Bajer Lake in both surface area and water volume. It's a peaceful spot where the green hills of Gorski Kotar meet a striking man-made reservoir.

In summer, the water can warm up to over 23°C, making it a popular destination for swimming. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 18 meters and is known for being rich in fish, drawing anglers from the wider region. The surrounding landscape offers a calm, scenic atmosphere throughout the year, with the wooded hills of Gorski Kotar framing the water on all sides.

How to get there

• Fužine — accessible via local road, time and difficulty depend on the chosen starting point
• Nearby Bajer Lake — can be combined into a single day trip visiting both lakes

Practical information

• The lake is part of the Vinodol hydroelectric power system and functions as a retention reservoir
• It regularly hosts the National Championship, World Championship, and World Cup in orienteering diving
• Popular for swimming in summer thanks to the warm water

Despite being artificial, Lepenica has become a globally recognized venue for orienteering diving competitions held here every year.
