Hochstein - Karlsleite is a compact yet charming nature reserve in Saxony, close to the Czech border. Rising to 424 metres, the Hochstein offers a peaceful hike away from the crowds, perfect for those seeking a nature escape without a demanding climb.

The reserve, covering roughly 21.5 hectares, impresses with its varied landscape - from gentle forested slopes to open sections overlooking the Gottleuba river valley. In spring and summer the area comes alive with rich vegetation typical of the protected Eastern Ore Mountains, while autumn paints the forests in warm colours for picturesque views. In winter the reserve turns into a quiet spot for a walk among snow-covered trees.

How to get there

• Berggießhübel (district of Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel) — trailhead, duration depends on chosen route, difficulty: easy to moderate
• Access via the K 8755 district road from the north or the S 174 road from the east, alongside the Gottleuba river
