Zeisigstein is a modest-looking summit in Saxon Switzerland that rewards hikers with a surprisingly wide panorama stretching toward the Ore Mountains. At 550.7 m, it is the third-highest peak in Saxon Switzerland and the fifth-highest in the entire Elbe Sandstone Mountains, yet it stays wonderfully quiet compared to the region's crowd-pullers.

The mountain sits right where Saxon Switzerland transitions into the Eastern Ore Mountains, and this location gives the summit viewpoint its special charm - to the north you can spot the flat-topped table mountains typical of Saxon Switzerland, while to the southwest the rolling landscapes of the Ore Mountains open up. Here, sandstone layers rest directly on the gneiss bedrock of the nearby Ore Mountains, creating a fascinating geological transition zone. A section of the historic Kulmer Steig trading route once ran across the mountain, adding a sense of old travel history to the walk.

How to reach the summit

• Markersbach (part of Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel) - roughly 2 km, easy to moderate trail
• Alternatively approach from the Bielatal valley, about 4 km to the east
