The Kieżmark Green Valley — known in Slovak as Dolina Zeleného plesa — is one of the most dramatic and rewarding destinations in the Slovak High Tatras. With its glacial lake shimmering beneath 900-metre granite walls, a historic mountain hut, and trails ranging from leisurely valley walks to serious alpine ascents, this valley has something to offer every visitor.

Covering 14.5 km², the valley makes a striking 75-degree bend at its midpoint, splitting into two very different sections: a dense, forested glacial trough in the lower part, and a wide-open alpine bowl framed by towering peaks and hanging side valleys higher up. The vertical range across the valley is an impressive 1,700 m. The jewel at its heart is the Green Kieżmark Lake (Zelené pleso), sitting at 1,545 m above sea level directly beneath the highest rock face in the entire Tatras — a sheer 900-metre drop from the summit of Malý Kežmarský štít. In summer the valley glows with lush alpine meadows; in winter, especially in the Wild Valley (Dolina Dzika), it becomes a superb backcountry skiing destination.

• Biała Woda / Biela voda (car park on the Freedom Road between Kežmarské Žľaby and Tatranská Kotlina) — yellow trail via Zbójnicka and Rzeżuchowa clearings to the lakeside hut: approx. 3 h 15 min up, 2 h 55 min down, moderate difficulty
• From the hut to Jahňací štít (Jagnięcy Szczyt) — yellow trail, approx. 2 h 15 min up, demanding
• Tatra Magistrale (red trail) from Skalnaté pleso via Rakúsky priechod to the hut: approx. 2 h 05 min, moderate

• The Chata pri Zelenom plese mountain hut on the lake shore offers accommodation and meals — a great base for multi-day exploration.
• A cycling route follows the yellow hiking trail all the way from Biela voda to the hut.
• The valley lies within the Tatra National Park (TANAP) — stay on marked trails and respect all nature-protection rules.

A tiny remnant glacier still clings to the northern walls of Lomnický štít — one of the last surviving glaciers in the Tatras and a living, if slowly disappearing, reminder of the Ice Age that carved this entire valley.
