Capie pleso is the largest lake in the Mlynická Valley in the Slovak Tatras — a stunning alpine tarn sitting at over 2,075 m above sea level, cradled in the western cirque of the valley. Three small islets dot its surface, turning into peninsulas during dry spells and giving the lake a truly distinctive character.

The lake enjoys a sheltered position within the valley, creating an atmosphere of quiet wilderness far from the crowds. In summer, the calm water mirrors the rocky ridges of the Soliská peaks and the dominant crag of Satan on the Hradbový ridge. Autumn brings warm amber tones to the dwarf pine and alpine grasses framing the lake, while winter transforms the entire area into a snow-covered sanctuary — though trails may be icy and demanding at that time of year.

The name 'Capie' comes from the Slovak word for a male chamois, reflecting the animals that once roamed this valley in great numbers — and with luck, you may still spot one on the surrounding slopes today.
