Bielovodská Valley is the longest valley in the entire Tatra Mountains — stretching over 10 km — and the only one considered truly alpine in character. Many Tatra connoisseurs call it the most beautiful valley in the range. Whether you are a casual walker or an experienced mountaineer, this place will leave a lasting impression.
The valley reveals itself gradually: gentle forested slopes near Lysá Poľana give way to open alpine meadows, roaring streams and wild rocky side valleys. Branches such as Kačacia, Ťažká and Svišťová valleys add dramatic depth and variety to the scenery. In winter the valley is blanketed in deep snow and feels wonderfully remote; in summer the green pastures and the crystal-clear Biela Voda river create a perfect backdrop for long hikes. The surrounding ridge — from Rysy to Gerlachovský štít and beyond — frames the valley with some of the highest peaks in the Tatras.
How to get thereDuring the last Ice Age, the valley was filled by a glacier stretching 14 km and more than 300 m thick — today the white granite boulders in the riverbed are a quiet reminder of that ancient ice, and the very reason the valley carries the name 'White Water'.
