Yavirnyk is a scenic ridge in the Gorgany range of the Ukrainian Carpathians, beloved for its accessible weekend hikes and open alpine meadows just a short climb from the resort town of Yaremche. It is the kind of mountain that rewards you with genuine wilderness without demanding technical skills.

The ridge is built from sandstone, forming dramatic rocky scree fields and a steep cliff wall stretching 2.5 km along the southwestern slopes. Dense silver fir and spruce forests cloak the steeper northeastern flanks, while a string of sunny polonyny — open highland meadows named Yavirnyk, Prutynok, Yavir and Kateryna — offer natural rest spots with sweeping views. From the highest points you can see Dovbushanka, Syniak and Khomiak to the west and the peaks of the Pokuttia-Bukovyna Carpathians to the east. The terrain asks for some patience — thick dwarf pine thickets and loose stone fields can slow progress — but the wild, unhurried character of the ridge more than compensates.

• Yaremche — via Polonyna Yavirnyk to Horhan Yavirnytskyi peak, approx. 2.5–4 hours ascent, moderate difficulty
• From Polonyna Yavirnyk the trail continues toward Zhenets and onward to the Syniak–Khomiak ridge — a great option for a longer traverse

• The central and southeastern part of the ridge falls within the Carpathian National Nature Park — park regulations apply
• The Zhenets Waterfall on the Zhenets River lies at the southern foot of the ridge and pairs well with a hike here
• Dwarf pine and scree make a full end-to-end traverse of the ridge quite demanding

The Zhenets River, flowing along the southern base of Yavirnyk, is a left tributary of the Prut — one of the most iconic rivers of the Carpathians — and the nearby Zhenets Waterfall is one of the prettiest natural spots near Yaremche.
