Popadia (1,740 m a.s.l.) is a wild and rewarding summit in the Gorgany range of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Off the beaten track and surrounded by dense forests and rocky scree fields, it offers an authentic mountain experience far from the crowds.

The slopes of Popadia are cloaked in spruce and beech-spruce forests that give way to dwarf pine thickets and characteristic Gorgany scree fields near the top. The mountain sits on the watershed between the Limnytsia and Teresva river headwaters, straddling the border between Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia oblasts. In summer the landscape is lush and green; autumn paints the forests in deep golds and reds; winter demands serious experience and proper gear. From the summit, views stretch across the neighbouring peaks: Mala Popadia (1,597 m), Parenky (1,735 m), Grofa (1,748 m), and the impressive Velyka Syvulia (1,836 m).

• Osmoloda village — the nearest settlement and natural starting point for the ascent; the route climbs through forest and along the main ridge; difficulty: moderate to demanding.

• The northern slopes lie within the Grofa Landscape Reserve and the southern slopes within the Bradul Reserve; visitors should respect local conservation rules.
• Historic border posts from before 1939, marking the former Polish-Czechoslovak boundary, are still standing on the summit.

Those old border markers on the summit are a genuinely rare find — a tangible reminder that this ridge once formed an international frontier between Poland and Czechoslovakia before the events of 1939 changed the map of Central Europe.
