Minčol (1,273 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the Orava Beskids of northern Slovakia, rising above the village of Mútne roughly 18 km northwest of Námestovo. What makes it special is a wide-open summit meadow that delivers a stunning 360-degree panorama — and a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path feel that is increasingly hard to find.

The top of Minčol is crowned by an open mountain meadow, so there is nothing blocking your views. On a clear day you can see the surrounding peaks of the Orava, Kysuce, Żywiec and Moravian-Silesian Beskids, parts of the Malá Fatra range, the Orava Magura, and even the Low and Western Tatras on the horizon. The terrain here is gentle enough to enjoy in any season — spring brings fresh wildflowers, autumn wraps the forests in warm colour, and winter turns the slopes into a quiet white retreat. The whole area sits within the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area, keeping it refreshingly unspoiled.

• From Mútne — no marked hiking trail leads to the top; access is possible via forest roads and paths. A red-marked trail runs along the ridge from Tri kopce northward toward Pilsko, from which the summit can be approached.

• There is no waymarked trail to the summit — map-reading and navigation skills are essential.
• The peak falls within the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Horná Orava).

Here is a fun fact to impress your hiking companions: there are actually three separate peaks named Minčol within the small region of Horná Orava — one here in the Orava Beskids, and two more in the neighbouring Orava Magura, including that range's highest point at 1,394 m. A curious triple of namesakes worth exploring.
