trails, peaks and attractions
The Beskid Żywiecki is Poland's highest Beskid range — wild, expansive and refreshingly uncrowded compared to the nearby Tatras. If you want genuine mountain adventure without the tourist queues, this is where to head.
The scenery shifts dramatically as you explore: gentle, long ridges in the west around Wielka Racza give way to broad alpine meadows scattered with sheep and blueberries, then to the dramatic rocky cliffs of Babia Góra in the east. Beech and spruce forests open onto sweeping ridgetop views stretching to the Tatras on clear days. The atmosphere feels authentic — shepherd huts, wooden churches and the scent of mountain herbs accompany almost every trail.
Highlights:Babia Góra hosts the only Polish population of the Hacquetia epipactis plant — a botanical rarity that has drawn nature lovers and scientists here for generations.
