Mechy (1,485 m a.s.l.) is the fourth highest peak in the Orava Beskydy range — a broad, heavily forested summit that opens up to a surprisingly wide panorama from its grassy clearing at the top. Tucked inside the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area, just south of the dominant Pilsko massif, it offers a genuinely wild and peaceful experience far from the beaten track.

The mountain is densely wooded almost to the very top, where a small summit meadow breaks the canopy and rewards you with a remarkable view. On a clear day you can see the High Tatras, the Silesian and Kysuce Beskydy, Orava Magura, and the Skorušina Hills; under exceptional conditions even the Low Tatras ridge, the Malá Fatra, and the peaks of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy come into view. The forest glows golden in autumn, wildflowers carpet the slopes in summer, and a thick blanket of snow makes the massif especially atmospheric in winter.

• Saddle from Pilsko summit — ridge walk continuation, possible as part of a longer Pilsko tour

• There is no marked hiking trail to the summit — navigation by map or GPS is required.
• The area lies within the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area (CHKO); respect all nature conservation rules.
• The summit straddles the cadastral territories of Mútne and Oravské Veselé in Námestovo District.

All streams draining Mechy — Bystrý, Furandovský, Randová and the tributaries of Javorový stream — flow into the White Orava river, making this massif a quiet but vital part of the Orava watershed. It is a place where the mountains still feel genuinely untouched.
