Malý Kolový štít is a remote, rugged summit in the Slovak High Tatras, standing as the highest point of the entire Jastrzębia Grań (Karbunkulový hrebeň) ridge. This is a peak for serious mountaineers rather than casual hikers — it sees almost no tourist traffic and offers a true sense of high-mountain wilderness.

The summit rewards climbers with expansive views over the surrounding Tatra ridges and valleys. Its north face is covered with scree, grass patches and rock debris, while the south face is regarded as one of the most impressive rock walls in the Tatras — over 200 meters high, split into pillars and depressions that challenge experienced climbers. The atmosphere here is one of solitude and raw alpine character, far removed from marked trails.

How to reach the summit

• From the Jagnięca Valley (Červená dolina) — no marked trails, climbing routes rated 0+ to I on the UIAA scale, suitable only for experienced mountaineers
• From either side of the ridge — again, unmarked routes reserved for skilled alpinists

Practical information

• No marked tourist trails lead to the summit
• The easiest route on the south face runs along the right pillar and is rated V — extremely demanding
• The diagonal Motyka route (VI–) crossing the south face is considered one of the finest classic climbing routes in the entire Tatras

The peak's German and Hungarian names commemorate Karol Englisch, who made the first recorded ascent together with his mother and two mountain guides on 18 July 1898.
