Jáchym is a modest but charming hill in the Šluknov Hilly Land, right by the German border. It's the kind of place perfect for a short, quiet walk topped off with a small historic chapel rather than a demanding mountain trek.

The hill is almost entirely covered in coniferous forest, mostly spruce monoculture, giving it a hushed, evergreen character in every season. The lower slopes to the west and northeast are farmed fields, opening up pleasant views across the gently rolling hills of the borderland. In winter the forest holds a deep silence under snow, while in summer it offers cool, shaded paths for an easy stroll.

• Lipová — blue trail toward Lobendava with a branch leading to the summit, easy difficulty

Practical information

• The summit holds a historicizing chapel of St. Joachim from 1914, together with a restored Way of the Cross
• Regional road III/2671, reconstructed in 2015-2016, crosses the northern slope

The hill's name honors St. Joachim, patron of its chapel, while the old German name Joachimsberg recalls the region's once mixed German-Czech heritage.
