Hohberg is a modest, forested peak in the Lusatian Highlands, rising just southeast of Sohland an der Spree. It's a hill for those who prefer quiet trails over crowded lookouts - the densely wooded summit hides small granodiorite outcrops but offers no view from the very top.

The real reward lies along the edges of the isolated Hohberg forest, where wide views open up over the surrounding valleys and the scattered hamlets of Sohland. Especially worthwhile is the green-marked trail running along the northern slope, which offers a sweeping panorama over the Spree valley, the Sohland reservoir, and as far as the Kälbersteine rocks. In winter the woods turn quiet and still, while in summer they offer welcome shade for a stroll from the surrounding villages.

How to reach the summit

• Uhyst am Taucher — green-marked trail leading over the northern slope to Äußerstniedersohland, easy route
• Sohland an der Spree — approach from the village centre, easy walk through the forest

Practical information

• Old maps recorded the mountain under the names Hoppricht or Hofeberg
• South of the summit, along the S116 road, stands the Bismarck Monument
• Nearby, west of the mountain, is the Bruno H. Bürgel observatory

Don't confuse this hill with the other Hohberg (426 m) near Schirgiswalde, located barely 4 km to the northwest - a different mountain despite the shared name.
