Czernic (1328 m a.s.l.) is the second highest peak in the Pasmo Policy ridge in the Beskid Żywiecki mountains — a quietly wild summit that rewards those willing to step off the beaten path. Expect dense forests, wind-thrown clearings that frame fleeting views, and a genuine sense of solitude that is increasingly rare in the Carpathians.

The peak sits on a lateral ridge running south-east from Polica towards the Zubrzycka Pass. Its north-eastern slopes drop steeply into the deep Zakulawka valley, while the south-western flanks descend towards the Zubrzyca stream. The forest is mostly spruce, broken in places by windfall patches — these natural gaps are your best chance of a view. In winter the trees glitter with frost, in autumn the hillsides glow amber, and in spring the resin-scented air is simply refreshing.

• Zubrzycka Pass — a marked tourist trail heading towards Polica passes the eastern side of the Czernic summit; moderate difficulty.

• The Great European Watershed runs along the Czernic ridge — north-eastern slopes drain to the Baltic Sea, south-western slopes to the Black Sea.
• Near the pass between Czernic and Polica, a forestry workers' shelter is hidden among the spruces — it is usually locked.
• Along the trail from Zubrzycka Pass towards Polica you may spot toppled granite boundary posts marked 'D' and 'S' — relics of the wartime German-Slovak border that once ran along this very ridge.

Those granite posts, now lying quietly in the undergrowth, are a fascinating reminder that during World War II this peaceful ridge was an international border — a history you would never guess from the tranquil forest around you today.
