The Ciucaș Mountains are one of Romania's best-kept secrets — a rugged massif in the Eastern Carpathians where jagged rock towers rise above wild meadows and the air smells of juniper and pine resin. If you are after dramatic scenery without the crowds, this is your place.

The massif is built around two main ridges culminating at Vârful Ciucaș (1,954 m). Ruiniform rock formations give the landscape an almost otherworldly character — imagine stone pillars and eroded crags scattered across open alpine pastures carpeted with bilberry shrubs and dwarf pines. Rivers like the Teleajen and Berii stream carve quiet valleys below, perfect for slower-paced walks between higher ridge sections.
