Lemberk Castle is one of the oldest noble castles in Bohemia — a medieval fortress transformed over the centuries into a stunning Renaissance and Baroque residence full of frescoes, ornate stucco work, and fascinating stories. The castle is forever linked to Saint Zdislava of Lemberk, canonised by Pope John Paul II in 1995, who once called these walls home.

Perched on a hilltop just three kilometres from Jablonné v Podještědí in the Liberec Region, the castle enjoys a peaceful setting on the edge of the Lusatian Mountains landscape. The round bergfried tower — the only surviving remnant of the original 13th-century fort — rises proudly above the courtyard and gives the complex its distinctive silhouette. In summer the linden-tree avenue and surrounding greenery create a romantic atmosphere, while autumn wraps the whole scene in warm amber colours.

• Lvová railway station (Liberec–Česká Lípa line) — green-marked hiking trail leads to the castle, approximately 1 km, easy walk.
• Car: parking available below the castle in the former farmyard area.

Do not miss the 'Fable Hall' — a Renaissance coffered ceiling from 1610 made up of 77 painted panels depicting Aesop's fables with German inscriptions, commissioned by Jan of Donín, and considered one of the finest of its kind in Bohemia.
