Janský Vrch Castle in Javorník is one of Silesia's best-kept secrets — a beautifully preserved former summer residence of the Bishops of Wrocław, perched on a distinctive hill above the town. Unlike many grand castles stripped bare over the centuries, this one kept its residential soul: original wall paintings, period furniture, and an atmosphere that feels genuinely lived-in.

The castle forms a compact, oval complex of buildings from different eras — Late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical — all harmoniously blended and topped by a small clock tower. The surrounding English-style park and garden terrace make it a pleasure to visit in any season: lush and green in summer, atmospheric and golden in autumn. A pedestrian path from the town centre, laid out in the early 19th century, leads gently up from the north — a lovely short walk in itself.

For nearly thirty years, composer Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf lived and worked here, writing over forty comic operas. And if the walls could talk, they might mention that Nicolaus Copernicus once visited — back when Janský Vrch was the cultural meeting point of the entire empire.
