Gorzanów Palace is one of the most remarkable and atmospheric historic residences in south-western Poland — a grand baroque castle that served as the ancestral seat of the Herberstein family for nearly 300 years. Slowly being brought back to life after decades of neglect, it is a perfect destination for travellers who love places where history is written into every stone.

The complex impresses from a distance: a soaring tower with an entrance portal, facades decorated with geometric and floral sgraffito, courtyard loggias and triangular gables all give the building its distinctive southern German Renaissance character with a strong baroque accent. Inside, the ballroom with its stucco ceiling decorations, several rooms with painted beam ceilings, and the remains of a court theatre and chapel create an atmosphere of faded grandeur that is genuinely moving. The surrounding park — one of the first baroque garden layouts in Silesia, later transformed into a landscape park — adds a romantic, contemplative quality to a visit.
