In the small town of Panenský Týnec stands one of the most unusual Gothic buildings in the Czech Republic - a church that was never finished, yet its incomplete form is more striking than many completed cathedrals. The monumental chancel and a fragment of the nave rise into the sky like a stone skeleton, creating an unforgettable sight, especially at sunset.

Construction was likely initiated in 1316 by Plichta of Žerotín, with major work carried out by the famous workshop of Peter Parler in the second half of the 14th century. A fire at the neighboring monastery in 1382 forced builders to revise the plans, and later financial troubles, along with the construction of a Baroque bell tower after a tower fire in 1744, permanently prevented completion of the original two-tower monastery church concept. Today the surviving stone walls, the Gothic portal with the Žerotín eagles, and the solitary bell tower create an atmosphere full of mystery that draws not only tourists but also couples looking for an unusual wedding venue.
