The Missionary Museum of the Michaelite Sisters in Miejsce Piastowe is a small but fascinating stop that brings a piece of Africa right into the heart of Podkarpacie. It's a great detour for hikers wanting a change of pace from trails and summits.
The museum is housed in the General House of the Michaelite Sisters, next to the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland and St. Michael the Archangel. Its four exhibition rooms display items brought back from missions in Libya and Cameroon — traditional clothing, masks, ornaments, musical instruments and everyday objects. One room is dedicated to the memory of Sister Anna Kaworek, co-founder of the congregation, while another honors St. John Paul II and Blessed Fr. Bronisław Markiewicz. The atmosphere is intimate and thought-provoking, whatever the season.
How to get thereIt's a worthwhile break during a trip through the Low Beskids, offering insight into the missionary work of the Michaelite Sisters on another continent.
